After an illustrious 40-year career in the broadcast booth, Rangers broadcasting legend Sam Rosen will hang up the microphone following the 2024-25 NHL postseason. Rosen has been the voice of the Rangers since 1986 and has worked with the club since 1982; making him the longest-serving broadcaster in the NHL who is still active.
Rosen has been the voice behind some of the most famous calls in modern New York Rangers history, notably his call on Stephane Matteau's goal in double overtime of the 1994 Eastern Conference final that sent the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final. Sam Rosen also famously called the final moments of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final. As the final whistle blew on game 7, resulting in the Rangers first championship in 54 years, Rosen famously exclaimed, "The waiting is over! The New York Rangers are the Stanley Cup champions! And this one will last a lifetime!" Of course, Rosen is most well-known for his consistency as a broadcaster over the years, his most notable call being, "It's a Powerplay Goal!!"

Sam Rosen is an iconic voice in New York media and Rangers fans across the five boroughs and the tri-state area have had the opportunity to hear his voice for 40 seasons. Rosen has also served as the Knicks and Giants play-by-play announcer at times, giving him a huge presence in media and becoming a household voice for many households in the New York metropolitan area, including my own.
Personally, Sam Rosen is one of my favorite announcers to listen to and his calls always strike me as passionate, like he always wants to be in the broadcasting booth. His calls make so many amazing Rangers goals so much more electric, my personal favorite being, "Rangers, Rangers, Rangers win!" after Artemi Panarin scored the series-winning goal against the Penguins in round 1 of the 2022 playoffs.
Sadly, we will only have one more season to enjoy Rosen's amazing calls from the broadcast booth. Even though many Rangers fans are upset, Rosen is now 77 and served the Rangers organization loyally for 40 years. He deserves to retire and spend time with his family after such a long and amazing career as a broadcaster for the New York Rangers.
Thank you, Sam.
