Sunday Notes: Shesterkin, Söderstrom, Red Wings

Happy Sunday, everyone. It this edition of Sunday Notes, I am going to provide the latest on Igor Shesterkin and his contract situation with the New York Rangers, Victor Söderstrom returning home to Sweden, and the latest on the Detroit Red Wings and their star RFA’s Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider.

Shesterkin seeking $12 million from Rangers?

In a recent report from David Pagnotta, he claimed that the New York Rangers and Igor Shesterkin have not progressed in contract negotiations but did state the goal for both sides is a long-term extension that will likely keep Shesterkin as a Ranger for the remainder of his career. Mollie Walker of the NY Post reported back in June that the goaltender could be searching for up to $12 million AAV over an eight-year contract. This report has recently been confirmed by ESPN’s Casey Ditzel. $12M AAV will make Igor Shesterkin the highest paid goaltender in the history of the NHL.

Shesterkin, 28, is entering the final season of his four-year, $22.7M contract.

Victor Söderstrom signs two-year deal overseas

It was announced Sunday afternoon that Victor Söderstrom has signed a deal to return home to Sweden. The defenseman signed a two-year contract with Brynäs IF of the SHL.

Söderstrom, 23, is a former 11th overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft. He only suited up in 53 games with the Arizona Coyotes, struggling to maintain a spot on the NHL roster.

How much are the Red Wings willing to give Seider and Raymond?

In a recent report from the Detroit Free Press, it was stated that the Detroit Red Wings would prefer to keep Lucas Raymond AND Moritz Seider under Dylan Larkin’s $8.7M AAV contract.

Although contract discussions have progressed between the two RFA’s and the Red Wings, this number could cause things to go south. Raynond, 22, notched 31 goals and 72 points through 82 games with the Red Wings last season, and those numbers are likely to go up again this season. Seider, 23, is a former rookie of the year winner who notched 42 points in 82 games this season. Seider has already solidified himself as the Red Wings best defensemen by a long shot.

Not to undermine the value of Dylan Larkin to the Red Wings, but both Raymond and Seider are likely already passing the value that Larkin holds. Hopefully an agreement can be reached between the two sides soon
